Who we are?

The Disability Support Team (DST) is a not for profit organization which is committed to assisting the many disabled individuals in our community who own their home, requiring practical home improvements. The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) have done a great job providing disabled homeowners with finances to meet their basic residential/renovation needs, but many individuals still are faced with other limiting challenges in and around their home. DST looks to step in and practically address remaining issues after prudent analysis of submitted applications by our review board. We look forward to working closely with ODSP and other agencies to not only enhance the awareness of our program, but to make a positive difference in our community.

Our Mission Statement:

The Disability Support Team is passionate about helping those that live in our own communities who struggle with a disability or handicap creating challenges in and around their place of residence. By using our abilities to build, renovate, and repair, the Disability Support Team is dedicated to making a difference in a very tangible and practical manner. "Home is where the heart is", which places the importance of creating a comfortable, safe, and functional environment as a top priority.

How it works?

Through our website, homeowners who are on ODSP subsidy and have already accessed available funding for home improvements, can send us their request for assistance by listing their contact information and a describing what their needs/limitations are. Our review board will sit bi-annually to determine what applicants are most in need of our support. DST then contacts various members of the team to organize the time, material, and other resources to carry out the project.

Who is on the Team?

The Disability Support Team is comprised of professional contractors, members of the general public, and other business affiliates. Anyone is welcome to be involved with the DST, and can submit their request by contacting us via email. We will update the team of upcoming projects and suggest how they can assist.

Where does the money come from?

Through various fundraising events or donations contributed, we cover the minimal administration costs incurred annually. Actual costs to complete the projects will typically be donated by suppliers or tradespeople/contractors.
